Project Title: A Mixed-Method Study of Partner Violence Screening Effectiveness and Associated Social and Health Factors
"Obtaining a Senior Consultant New Connections award has given me opportunities to work closely with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on an important health care issue, which will help ensure that the study will influence policy and practice to improve health care for vulnerable populations."
Project Description
Colarossi plans to evaluate an intimate partner violence screening tool and policy used by three comprehensive reproductive health centers in New York City that serve a diverse population with vulnerability to intimate partner violence and negative reproductive health outcomes. In addition, she will measure the associations between intimate partner violence and age, race, ethnicity, neighborhood site and various reproductive health outcomes.
Because screening protocols have mostly been implemented and studied in emergency room settings, her results will address gaps in intimate partner violence research and practice in primary and reproductive health care settings.
Colarossi's project will be conducted at a large multi-site reproductive health center in collaboration with a network of community associates, including the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, New York City Council, outpatient health care providers and intimate partner violence organizations. The study will employ a mixed-method design using focus and advisory groups to collect qualitative data and a medical record review to collect quantitative data.
