Junior Investigators
New Connections considers individuals who have completed their doctorates (J.D. is an appropriate degree for applicants to the PHLR-NC grant) within the last seven years to be Junior Investigators. As early-career professionals, Junior Investigators can benefit from the research funding opportunities and career development and mentoring activities that New Connections offers.
In terms of research funding opportunities, Junior Investigators are eligible for grants of up to $75,000, which includes funding for a consultant and methodological training. Junior Investigators must address specific questions posed by one of RWJF’s program areas using secondary data analysis or systematic review. Junior Investigators are expected to commit between .25 - .75 FTE during a 24-month grant period.
New Connections is also dedicated to supporting the Foundation's pledge to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic by 2015. In support of this goal, the program offers special solicitations specifically targeting obesity and physical activity related research for Junior Investigators through collaboration with Healthy Eating Research, Active Living Research, and Public Health Law Research national programs.
